Are you looking for your next optic and considering an LPVO?
Then, I’ve got the perfect option to tell you about the new Primary Arms SLx 1-10x ACSS Nova with fiber optic reticle.
I have been putting this LPVO (Low Power Variable Optic) through the paces to report my findings on this new release.
It’s time to dive in.
Specifications | |
---|---|
Battery Type | CR2032 3V Lithium Coin |
Magnification | 1-10x |
Mount Compatibility | 34mm |
Weight | 19.1 oz. |
I’ve been a big fan of Primary Arms optics for some time, so my first impressions are a little muted.
They have consistent packaging, and the same items come in similar scopes.
If this is your first Primary Arms optic, just know you are getting a quality product that is well-packaged and will impress you as soon as you pull it out of the box.
The first thing I did once I opened this LPVO is throw it into a Primary Arms 34mm mount.
Keep in mind that most higher-end LPVOs do not come with mounts.
That is an added item and is done because mount requirements vary widely depending on the firearm the scope will be mounted to.
Weight is a big factor when considering an optic because carrying your rifle for long periods can become taxing and fatigue you.
Not to mention, if you have to keep your rifle aimed at the target, your firearm will get heavier by the second.
The SLx 1-10x weighs just 19.1 ounces, which is great because this LPVO eliminates the need for a red dot sight and magnifier combo.
But keep in mind the scope mount will also add to the weight.
I have not found LPVOs extremely noticeable regarding weight because they sit in the middle of most firearms.
The reticle is a nice, clean, classic MIL reticle.
The reticle is compatible with any cartridge and has an advanced fiber-optic dot that simulates the functionality of a red dot.
The 11 brightness settings allow you to get this optic just as bright as a red dot sight while still being able to magnify the optic.
The easy-to-turn brightness knob is on the left side of the scope and allows you to go from off to max brightness or off to lowest brightness with one turn.
I like the simplistic ACSS NOVA reticle and love the brightness of the red dot center.
You won’t need an additional red dot sight with this LPVO model!
Adjustment is extremely easy because the SLx 1-10x comes with oversized turrets.
The caps come off easily, and adjustments can be made with your hands; no tools are required.
I did a quick dial-in, but I will zero it in from a bench in the next day or two.
I was in a hurry, swamped by mosquitos, and shooting this off-hand without support.
My first shot out of the box (Labeled 1) was a little low and right.
I adjusted the sight slightly for windage and got it nearly perfectly in line on shot two (Labeled 2).
I overcorrected the elevation (Labeled 3) but got it a bit more dialed in before calling it a day (not pictured).
This LPVO has found a home on my 16″ LWRC M6IC rifle, and so far, it has been the right choice.
I was using another LPVO that didn’t have the illuminated red dot but rather a fully illuminated reticle.
The setup worked, but it was not a red dot replacement.
The fully illuminated reticle distorted the sight picture and wasn’t as good of an experience.
I plan to run this optic and rifle in an upcoming LPVO-specific class.
I like that the eye relief on one power is similar to that of a traditional red dot sight, such as the Primary Arms MD-25.
What are my overall feelings for the Primary Arms SLx 1-10x ACSS Nova?
Simple.
This is one of the best bang for your buck 1-10x LPVO’s on the market right now.
The price point for what you get is almost impossible to beat.
The simple MIL reticle is great and this glass is clear and lightweight.
The fact you can use it as a red dot sight and a magnified optic seals the deal for me.
I highly recommend this optic.
I might even say skip over the 1-6x because this provides more magnification value with little extra cost.
