People love Glocks… but people also love clones… So when you have Glock Clone Wars, people lose their minds!
I am kidding, kind of. But I will cover a few of the best Glock clones on the market today and my experience with each.
A Glock Clone is simply a pistol based on the Glock design. Typically, it is based on the Gen 3 Glock platform and looks very similar to it. The design uses the same trigger design as well as the magazine release and slide stop.
And yes… they take Glock mags.
The market has been flooded with guns that look so much like the Glock Gen 3; it’s crazy! You might be wondering why there are so many Glock clones on the market today and why isn’t Glock suing their pants off.
Well, it’s because the patents on the Gen 3 Glocks have run out; they are only valid for 15 years from issuance.
So companies have taken advantage of that patent expiration and made more affordable versions with their take on the aesthetics and sometimes the overall design itself.
They have also done what Glock refuses to do and made Gucci Glocks, which we will cover in another article soon.
So, you want the best Glock clone? We have a short list of the best Glock clones we have tested firsthand.
The PSA Dagger is arguably one of the most popular Glock clones on the market today. It has three different size variations: the Compact Dagger, Micro Dagger, and Full-Size Dagger.
The models are similar in size to Glock counterparts, but the Dagger isn’t 100% interchangeable with its equivalents, especially the trigger bar and other interfunctionalities.
I have shot the full-size, compact, and micro daggers and couldn’t be happier with the ones I have shot. I have not gone so far as to replace my carry Glocks with a Dagger yet, but with the amount of them in the wild and enough personal testing, I’m beginning to trust them.
Joining the ranks of this best-of list is the PSA Micro Dagger. The Micro Dagger is a Glock 43x clone, and there is an option to get a GLock 48 clone using the Micro Dagger C1 model.
Recently, I did a full review of the Micro Dagger and it got high marks for it’s design features as well as it’s durability.
The Micro Dagger even comes with a custom designed PSA magazine that will also fit the Glock 48s and has a 15 round magazine capacity.
The Shadow Systems MR920L falls into the “Gucci Glock” category, which many people want to own and was extremely popular a few years ago.
I think Gucci Glocks are now far more mainstream as the price of guns has risen and the Shadow Systems and other guns with aesthetic features are more obtainable than ever.
To me, the MR920L shoots like a Glock 17. It comes with several notable features that are hard to ignore.
The gun’s overall look and feel are first-rate, and the optics-cut slide, bronze barrel, flat metal trigger, and custom magazine release eliminate the need for further milling or customization.
The Shadow Systems CR920 Elite is Shadow Systems’ version of a Glock 43X. This gun feels great in the hand and fixes many of the things I dislike about a stock Glock.
Namely, the sights and trigger on the CR920 are much better than on any stock Glock you can buy.
My favorite part of the CR920 is the trigger. It’s flatter and less curved, with a cleaner break and a crisp, smooth pull.
The Gucci Glock status of Shadow Systems will draw most people to the CR920.
The Dusk 19 is another one of my favorite Glock clones for many of the same reasons, but one tiny reason sells me.
Don’t laugh. This particular slide release is the best on a Glock or Glock clone ever.
The slide extended release is what I had on my first Glock 19, and it will forever be my favorite. The Dusk 19 has a unique grip angle of a 1911, which makes it feel less like a Glock but maintains all the Glock controls with slightly different ergonomics.
It has a very aggressive grip texture and a flat all-metal trigger that is smooth and crisp.
If there’s one negative to the Dusk 19, it’s the KCI magazines it comes with.
The ZRO Delta One is a unique handgun manufactured right here in my home state of North Carolina.
It’s a great pickup because it’s a completely modular grip frame, which is a unique take.
I’ve held this gun many times at SHOT Show, and while I haven’t been able to put rounds down range with the gun, it’s a contender for one of the best Glock clones simply for its uniqueness.
That depends on what you’re looking for in a gun. If you want a showpiece that looks great, absolutely take it to the range and have fun with it.
There are many options for Glock clones that are a lot of fun and can save a ton of money.
As I stated before, I have not yet ditched Glock as a carry gun but I have extensively shot many very high-quality clones.
So, it boils down to budget and comfort with the platform you plan to carry.
