Are you looking for a Gucci Glock? Well, Shadow Systems might just be what you’re looking for. They offer many different models but one that tickles my fancy is the Shadow Systems MR920L.

With Glock staying true to its roots and not releasing at custom works it is no surprise that other companies have quickly backfilled what Glock refuses to do.

What is the Shadow Systems MR920L?

The MR920L is a long slide on the compact MR920 frame. The MR920 is a Glock 19 Gen 3 equivalent for the Glock comparison.

So, the MR920L is a Glock 17 slide on a Glock 19 frame but with the Shadow Systems special sauce.

Features

The real question is whether the MR920L offers any features or is just another Glock clone. I’ll examine the features and controls to see if the Shadow Systems is different enough to be a contender or if you should DIY a Gucci Glock.

Grip and Ergonomics

The grip angle is identical to the Glock 19 Gen 3 but the grip texture is very different.

The MR920L’s changeable backstrap is much different. It doesn’t go completely up the frame like on a standard Glock.

Magazine Capacity

The gun’s capacity with a normal magazine is 15 rounds. You can get wild and crazy with the Extendo magazines, but for the sake of a good review, let’s only address the intended magazine capacity.

Shadow Systems MR920L magazine

The MR920L can take the factory Glock 19 magazine or the Magpul P-Mag Glock magazine.

Sights and Optics Mount

This is where Shadow Systems started to fix my issues with stock Glock pistols.

The Sights on a Glock from the factory are terrible, and I mean the worst on the market.

Shadow Systems MR920L sights

I hate stock Glock sights, but the sights on the MR920L are exactly the configuration I’d want. So, props to Shadow Systems for including the front night sight with the blacked-out rear.

MR920Ls also have an optics-ready slide, so you can easily and conveniently add a red dot sight.

Rail

The accessory rail is great for your favorite pistol flashlight or even a laser, even if those aren’t my favorite pistol accessories.

This rail will take most pistol flashlights that will fit a Glock 19 Gen 3 frame.

Controls

Looks are great, but the real meat and potatoes are the handling and control of the pistol.

So here is my assessment after spending some time running it.

Trigger

The trigger is the most notable control on which Shadow Systems puts their special sauce.

With the flat surface and aluminum construction it feels great on first impression.

But how does it perform? Pretty good. The wall is more well-defined with this trigger than the factory Glock trigger.

The break is very similar to a Glock break and is very crisp and clean. The reset is just past the wall, with only a tiny bit of take-up to get back to the wall.

Magazine Release

Shadow Systems got this magazine release as close to the Glock Gen 5 magazine release as they could without copy + paste.

Magazine Release button on the MR920L

I like the magazine release button; it functions as it should. It drops magazines free fast and without any resistance.

The button is larger than the Gen 3 Glocks but not as large as the Gen 5. It also features a forward-cut design that allows your thumb to have good resistance.

Slide Stop

While the slide stop is nothing to write home about, it does work well, and I like the attention to detail on the slide that highlights the slide stop lever.

Shadow Systems MR920L Slide Stop

The slide stop is higher than that of other Glocks and Glock clones, making it easier to press and raise when needed.

Aesthetics

Gucci Glocks are all the rage and Shadow Systems is knocking it out of the part in the aesthetics department.

The slide has so much fantastic milling and detail it’s hard for it not to turn your head.

With mirrored window cuts in the slide to show the Bronze TiCN barrel for the ultimate aesthetic touch with is the chef’s kiss.

The small details are what pull this gun together. The model number engraved on the slide with the Shadow Systems logo is so tastefully done that it is hard to find something not to like about the look and feel of this gun.

Best MR920L Ammo

One of the nice things about Glocks and their clones is their ability to shoot any ammo you throw at them.

From FMJ plinking ammo to your hollow point defensive rounds this gun will shoot it without issue.

Shooting

If you want a quick gun comparison, it’s as close to a Glock 17 as you can get, with some great improvements.

The recoil impulse is almost exactly the same as a Glock 17 but the trigger is leaps and bounds better than the stock Glock trigger.

I really enjoy shooting this gun and it’s one I could easily shoot for hours on a range trip.

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a Gucci Glock this is probably a good gun to consider. Shadow Systems upgraded all the areas of a Glock I don’t like.

Shadow Systems MR920L

The price tag is a bit high with an MSRP at just over $1,000 it’s expensive but if you price out doing each of the modificatons I think you’d be hard pressed to beat this price.

It’s a fun gun but more of a range pistol rather than an everyday carry pistol.
