The parent case of the .300 Remington Ultra Mag is the .404 Jeffery. Remington introduced the .300 RUM cartridge in 1999 and it is still in production to this day.

300 RUM is a beltless bottleneck cartridge with a bullet diameter of .308 inch and it uses large rifle magnum primers.
